Wedding photographers often ask for a handsome amount to capture your big day. While they are not wrong in doing so (Read why here). It’s possible to hire a quality photographer and still save a little money off your big fat wedding. Here’s how:
#1: Do your homework: Look at potential photographers' wedding galleries — ask to see images that match what you want from your wedding photos. The type of photos you want are not stated by pricing, so the most expensive doesn't always equal the best.
#2: Pick the right photographer: If you want fun, unusual and creatively beautiful photos, look for a photographer who has experience and client photos to prove their style. You don’t necessarily have to go for the big names. There's no doubt that the experienced professional will charge you the average amount or higher, so if you’re on a tighter budget, look for newer professional photographers or even a photography student or college students who are new into this business. Good work would do. After all, every professional was first an amateur. I recommend asking about their candid photos, often this will exhibit a photographer’s style and experience.
#3 Don’t be overwhelmed: Don’t be in awe of a photographer who shows off his gear. The most expensive gear isn't necessarily the best. The more expensive cameras and lenses don't do anything significant for the huge increases in price.
#4. Book early:The best thing about booking early is that some photographers offer discounts for early bookings, so try to find one as soon as you fix a wedding date.
#5: Ask for soft copy: One good way to save on your photography prints is to ask about soft copy of the photos. Once you have that disc full of wedding pictures, you’re free to print off photos when you want.
#6: Hire a photographer for less time. Don’t book your photographer for as much time, and you can dramatically reduce the cost of your photography contract. The person will have fewer photos to process and will charge you fewer overall hours.
#7: Ask about referral discounts. Many wedding photographers offer referral discounts.
